Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2025
Social Law Docs (ABN to be inserted) operates the website at sociallawdocs.com.au and sells legal document templates. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information, and how you can access or correct your information or make a complaint.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What personal information we collect
We collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business. The main categories are:
- Purchase information: your name, email address, billing address and payment details when you buy a template. We do not store your full card details — payment processing is handled by Stripe.
- Account information: if you create an account, your username, email address and password (stored in hashed form).
- Contact information: your name and email address if you contact us by email or through a contact form.
- Usage data: information about how you use the website, including pages visited, time spent and referring URLs, collected through cookies and analytics tools.
2. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you when you:
- purchase a template;
- create an account;
- contact us; or
- subscribe to any email communications.
We also collect usage data automatically through cookies and analytics tools when you visit the website.
3. Why we collect it and how we use it
We collect and use personal information to:
- process your purchase and deliver the template to you;
- manage your account;
- respond to your enquiries;
- send you receipts, download links and service messages;
- send you marketing emails, if you have opted in;
- improve the website and our products; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
4. Legal basis
We process your personal information on the basis that it is necessary to perform the contract with you (delivering your purchase), to comply with our legal obligations, or because we have a legitimate interest in operating and improving our business. Where we rely on consent (for example, for marketing emails), you can withdraw that consent at any time.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information with third-party service providers only to the extent necessary to operate the business, including:
- Stripe, for payment processing;
- our website hosting, e-commerce and email delivery providers;
- analytics providers, such as Google Analytics;
- our accountants, IT support and professional advisers, where needed.
We may also disclose personal information where the law requires or allows it, for example to a court, regulator or law enforcement agency. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia. In particular, Stripe, our analytics providers and some hosting and email services process data in the United States, and may use infrastructure in other countries. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
7. Marketing
If you receive marketing emails from us, every one of them includes an unsubscribe link. You can also opt out at any time by emailing hello@sociallawdocs.com.au. Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages we need to send you, such as receipts and download links.
8. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar tools to make the site work, remember your cart, and help us understand how visitors use the site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly without them.
9. Automated decision making
We do not use computer programs to make decisions that could significantly affect your rights or interests. If that changes, we will update this policy to explain what those decisions are and what information they use.
10. How we store and protect your information
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include encrypted payment processing through Stripe, access controls on our systems, and limiting who in the business can see your information. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure, but if something goes wrong we will act quickly (see section 12).
11. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy or as long as the law requires. Purchase and tax records are kept for at least the periods required under Australian tax law. When we no longer need your information, we take reasonable steps to delete it or de-identify it.
12. Data breaches
If a data breach involving your personal information is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, and tell you what happened and what we recommend you do.
13. Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Email hello@sociallawdocs.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days. We do not charge for making a request. In the rare case that we cannot give you access or make a correction, we will tell you why in writing and explain how you can complain about that decision.
14. Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at hello@sociallawdocs.com.au with the details. We will acknowledge your complaint, look into it, and respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or by calling 1300 363 992.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when the law changes or we change how the business operates. The current version will always be published on this page with the date it was last updated. Significant changes will be flagged on the website or by email.
